The Jointing of ABS to PVC

Can you tell the difference?

PVC- Polyvinyl Chloride
ABS- Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

Different Molecular Structures
Different Thermal Expansion Rates
Solvents and cements not cross-compatible
Require different joining systems
PVC ABS

AS/NZS 2032 - 2006 - 4.8 states:

Complying mechanical couplings or metal banded flexible couplings to join materials of different materials having same or similar nominal diameter.
It is the plumbers responsibility to ensure correct materials are used.
Always check the AS/NZS (standards).
It is best to not mix dissimilar materials- either install a full PVC system or a full ABS system.
